OWO KINGDOM: 79 yrs after, Ajike family aim for Olowo of Owo stool

One of the royal families in Owo kingdom, Ondo state, the Ajike family has expressed its desire to ascend the throne of Olowo of Owo which is currently vacant.

The family which produced a former monarch of the kingdom 76 years ago is again coming out to contest the position among other royal families.

In a statement signed by the head of the Ajike Aanneye family, Prince Ladi Ajike, and made available to Ripples Nigeria on Sunday, the family said it possesses all the needed qualifications to rule the kingdom once again.

The statement reads; “It is well known that our grandfather Late Oba Adeoye Ajike Atanneye was Olowo of Owo between 1938/1940. He was the first literate Olowo of Owo. His reign was peaceful and achieved a lot within his very short reign. Notably is the construction of roads from Owo to UTE, Owo to Isuada, the establishment of an office in the palace for meetings and recreation.

“He renamed the title of the King to Olowo of Owo from Ogwa, and encouraged the education of Owo indigenes and Chiefs to mention a few of his achievements.

“Therefore the royal family will be in the race for the exalted throne of Olowo of Owo”.

The family in the statement went further to say that “It gladdens our hearts that one of our numerous, formidable Sons will be contesting to become the next Olowo of Owo. He is Prince Olayemi Olatunbosun Ajike, an internationally acclaimed businessman residing in Dubai, Lagos and his hometown Owo.

“Having lived successfully for decades in Dubai running a thriving trading, import and export business, he will do more for his home town and environs when he ascends his grandfather’s throne by attracting industries and international entrepreneurs to Owo Kingdom.

“He will also work for the peaceful coexistence and unity of all towns in Owo Kingdom. He was chosen by the Ajike Atanneye royal family after due consideration and concessions by all and Sundry to represent and deliver good achievements like his grandfather.

“We believe in his chances to become the next Olowo and bring development, peace, improved business, infrastructure, Job opportunities, Youth empowerment and a lot more with his local and international connections.

“We appeal to the senior Omolowos and Kingmakers to look at the Ajike Attaneye’s family this time around. It has been 79 years plus since the family last occupied the exalted throne of the Olowo of Owo.

“We have always been gallant in the defeat and cooperated with the victors each time we contested. We will do the same if we are victorious this time around”.

Recall that the immediate past monarch, Oba Olateru Olagbegi left to join his ancestors after 16years of reign. He was given his staff of office on December 11, 2003, by the late Governor Olusegun Agagu.
