Oyegun meets Buhari to explain alleged sabotage of Tinubu’s peace efforts

The national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), John Odigie-Oyegun on Friday met behind closed doors with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Although it was not clear what the subject of the meeting was, speculations were rife that it may not be unconnected with the allegation that he has been sabotaging Senator Bola Tinubu and his reconciliation team’s efforts to unite aggrieved members of the party.

Tinubu, a national leader of the APC, who was recently appointed by Buhari to lead the party’s reconciliation team, had in a letter dated February 21 and copied to Mr. President, Vice President, Senate President and the Speaker House of Representatives, accused Oyegun of sabotaging his efforts at carrying out the assignment handed down to him.

So, it was believed that the Friday meeting between Buhari and Oyegun may have been fixed to afford the party chairman to respond to the allegations leveled against him by Tinubu.

The APC chairman, who get to the Presidential Villa at about 3pm, left hastily at about 3.50pm, making sure he avoided State House correspondents.

Oyegun, sighting newsmen awaiting him at their operational base inside the Council Chambers Briefing Room, increased his pace and quickly made his way out of the premises.

The existence of a high level plot to have Oyegun removed as the chairman of the party is apparent. Only last week, members of APC, claiming to be Buhari re-election support group, for three consecutive working days staged a protest against Oyegun at the party headquarters, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarters, and in some other areas of Abuja demanding Oyegun’s exist.
