OYO: Makinde gets court’s nod to inspect election materials in suit challenging his victory

A three-man governorship election petition tribunal in Oyo state has granted access to the governor-elect, Seyi Makinde to inspect election materials used during the March 9 governorship election in the state.

The Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Muhammed Sirajo gave the order to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following an ex parte application filed by Jamiu Makinde, Counsel to Makinde.

The victory of Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the March 9 governorship election in the state is being challenged by Adebayo Adelabu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Makinde is joined by INEC and PDP as first, second and third respondents respectively, in the suit.

Makinde said that the application was brought under section 281 (1, 2) of the electoral Act 2010 as amended. He said the application was supported by 18 paragraph affidavit and a written address sworn to by one Emmanuel Igu.

After listening to the submission of the first respondent, Justice Muhammed granted the application seeking the order of the tribunal to inspect all the election materials used in the March 9 election.
