Oyo mourns as Igangan boils again, many killed

Bandits in the early hours of Sunday staged an attack on Igangan, Ibarapa in Oyo State, killing many people.

The number of people killed in the attack is yet unknown, but reports put the figures at no less than 20 with women and children being the major victims.

The Oyo State governor took to social media later in the day to condemn the attacks, even as he urged residents to remain calm.

He said, “I have received the shocking news of the attack on residents of Igangan, Ibarapaland. I and currently being briefed on the incidents. I urge residents to remain calm as security operatives are now in control of the situation”.

Unverified sources claim the attackers stormed the sleepy town in the wee hours of Sunday on motorcycles shooting sporadically, and setting houses and vehicles on fire.
