PACIFIC SHOW OF POWER: North Korea warns of ”dire consequences’
North Korea is threatening “dire consequences” following a military drill which saw USS Carl Vinson strike group carry out exercises with South Korean navy at the Korean peninsula in a pacific show of power.
A North Korean state-run newspaper Minju Choson on Sunday warned of “catastrophic consequences”, accusing the USS Carl Vinson strike force of rehearsing a “preemptive attack on the North” in a “special operation”.
“This has pushed the tense situation on the Korean peninsula to an unpredictable dangerous phase,” the newspaper said in a commentary.
“The enemies have to know that military threat and blackmail with the mobilisation of nuclear carriers and nuclear submarines cannot work on the DPRK,” it said, using the acronym for the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
“The US and the puppet group of traitors have to ponder over the catastrophic consequences to be entailed by their foolish military provocation – and stop running wild.”

The US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told the United Nations Security Council that it is time to take action against the North led by Kim Jong Un amid its continued missile activities.
But the President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte has warned the United States not to play into the hands of North Korea whose head strong leader Kim Jong Un “wants to end the world”.
While advising the US to exercise restraint, Duterte said the Southeast Asia region was extremely worried about tensions between Washington and Pyongyang, and said one misstep would be a “catastrophe” and Asia would be the first victim of a nuclear war.
Duterte who is chairman of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) said he would urge Trump not to get into a confrontation with Kim.
