Pakistan: Brother snuffs life out of celebrity sibling in honour killing

The death of Pakistani social media celebrity Qandeel Baloch (who often divides opinion in Pakistan, a largely conservative nation has sparked outrage after she was reportedly killed by her brother for her pro stance on women empowerment and the fact that she often dresses in non-traditional and revealing clothes.

Reports say her brother Waseem Azeem pinned shut Baloch’s nose and mouth blocking off her airways before she died in their family home contrary to earlier reports that she had been strangled.

Following the incident, Baloch’s father, Mohammed Azeem, filed a case against his son, Waseem, and also testified against another of his sons, who works in the army who reportedly encouraged his sibling to carry out the killing as both sons are said to have gone missing after the incident.

Nabila Ghazzanfar, a Punjab Police spokeswoman said: “We are hopeful that the killer will be found soon, and will follow legal proceedings.”
