PDP accuses Okorocha of selling off 71 government vehicles as scraps

The Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has accused Governor Rochas Okorocha of selling off 71 new vehicles belonging to the state government as scraps.

According to the PDP, this is part of orchestrated plans by Okorocha to make things difficult for the incoming PDP government of Emeka Ihedioha.

The state Secretary of the party in Imo, Ray Emeana, who addressed journalists on Friday in Owerri, said the governor was auctioning the 71 vehicles from a government auctioneer, M. U. Osakwe, for N609m.

Emeana, who displayed a document from the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, which was signed by one Julia Ukaigwe, said that the state government backdated official documents in order to do away with the government vehicles.

He said: “I have called you to raise the alarm again that the outgoing governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, has engaged the service of a government approved auctioneer, M. U. Osakwe, to auction 71  Imo State government vehicles as scraps.

“This document I have here is dated December 18, 2018, but the information we have is this directive was issued last Tuesday. This act by the outgoing governor is to make the administration of the incoming governor very difficult.

“We want to warn that no matter how highly placed those involved are, we will recover Imo State government properties once we take over on May 29, 2019.”

The PDP alleged that the outgoing governor was engaging in last-minute looting of the resources of the state, adding that he was also illegally auctioning ambulances belonging to the state government.
