Acting chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democracy Party (PDP) Adulphus Wabara, on Tuesday led other members of the BoT to Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Wabara and the BoT members are to meet with Governor Nyesom Wike, ostensibly to persuade him to drop the clamor for the sacking of the national chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu, and give his support to the election campaign of its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

This is coming a few days after the quintet of PDP governors, including Nyesom Wike of Rivers, Gabriel Ortom of Benue, Ayo Makinde of Oyo, Okezie Ikpazu of Abia, and Ifeanyi Ugwanyi of Enugu states, met in Enugu to discuss issues affecting in the opposition party.

Wabara, who replaced Walid Jibrin in the interest of peace in the party, was accompanied by six other members of the party’s BoT to talk to Governor Wike.

PDP has been engulfed in crisis following the conclusion of its presidential primaries on May 28.

The Rivers State Governor had insisted that the incumbent chairman, Iyiorcha Ayu, should resign in the interest of equity and fairness.

However, the retention of Ayu as the national chairman had engendered fresh fisticuffs in the party as members of Governor Wike’s camp had pulled out of the party’s presidential campaign ahead of 2023 polls.

The BoT members are expected to persuade Governor Wike and his loyalists to rescind their decision.
