Remove yourself from our matter, Makarfi, others tell Justice Abang

In what seemed like a subtle coup against embattled chairman of the party, the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) on Monday, gave Sen Ahmed Makarfi access to the party’s secretariat.

Makarfi is the chairman of the caretaker committee that was put in place by the BoT at the party’s recent controversial national convention held in Port Harcourt

Even as stakeholders in the party contend in court for who should lead the party, the BoT threw the party’s doors open for the Makarfi-led committee to run the affairs of the party till a national convention is held to elect principal officers.

Speaking at the event on Tuesday, former Deputy National Chairman of the party, Uche Secondus said the party is strong and is working towards ensuring a successful National Convention which would produce leaders who in turn would lead the party to victory in 2019.

He said: “The party is one and is strong. On behalf of members of the former National Working Committee of the PDP, I am here to handover to the Caretaker committee chairman, we are ready to work with you, we are ready to cooperate with you”, he told Makarfi.

The meeting was attended by members of the BoT, serving and former governors of the party as well as PDP members of the National Assembly.

The meeting was initially scheduled to be a reconciliatory meeting of between the Makarfi and Sheriff groups, but the party later confirmed that Sheriff had travelled before the meeting started.

His absence did not stop the leadership of the party, as they insisted that they are on track to reconcile warring groups, unite the party and are currently putting structures in place to pilot the affairs of the party.
