PDP CHAIRMANSHIP: S’West may settle for consensus candidate

Ahead December 9 national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), one of the party’s national chairmanship aspirant, Professor Tunde Adeniran, has expressed hope that through God intervention that the South-West will present a consensus candidate.

Adeniran had when he visited 59 delegates of the party in Ondo State to canvass for their votes said aspirants from the zone “are talking among ourselves,” over having a consensus candidate.

He had added, “l am sure we will get it right before the convention. God does not make mistakes I am sure he will step in.”

He stated this following a question thrown at him by one of the delegates who demanded to know why the aspirants from the zone have been finding it difficult to agree on a consensus candidate.

On the insinuations that some politicians are sponsoring his aspiration to become the next chairman of PDP for their selfish goals, Adeniran denied any such thing describing it as a deliberate attempt to provoke him.

“This is just propaganda to pull me down and provoke me because they all know I possess the potential to turn around the fortune of PDP. To me, this is a wicked insult and the greatest insult. Nobody is sponsoring my aspiration and I want to tell you that I stand for the truth, equity and fairness. This should not be used to further destabilize the party.

“I am not being sponsored by Buruji Kashamu, Atiku Abubakar or Ibrahim Babangida or anybody. I know this is the handiwork of mischief makers and it will not work, God will deal with them soon. The sponsors of the allegation are those afraid of defeat at the December 9 convention,” he said.

On why he would want to become the next chairman of the PDP, the former Education Minister said, “The party (PDP) is like a vehicle which developed fault before getting to its destination. What we need now is both a driver and a mechanic who can fix the vehicle as it moves on.

“l am both a driver and a mechanic because l know this party from onset and can fix the problems for it to have a smooth drive.”
