PDP divided over appointment of new chairman

Cracks have emerged within the rank of the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the quest by top politicians in the North-east to fill the vacant position of National Chairmen of the party.
The position has been vacant since its former chairman, Adamu Mu’azu, was forced to resign in May 20, after pressure was piled on him following the party’s defeat in the last general elections well before the expiration of his tenure.
According to the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, who addressed journalists at the end of the 67th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party yesterday, in Abuja, the party leaders had divergent views on the issue, stressing that the NWC would liaise with the party leadership in the North-east to re-consider the issue.
“The NEC did not discuss the issue of Mu’azu’s replacement but there is a kind of subtle understanding that the NWC will work with the North-east in that regard. Some members raised the issue but others did not key into it same way,” he said.

The PDP spokesman also said NEC adopted the recommendations of the Post-Election Review Committee headed by the Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu with amendments and approved the recommendation that the party should seek its 2019 presidential candidate from the north of Nigeria to enhance its electoral chances.
Acting Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, confirmed that the party has just about two months to go into another round of Congresses and National Convention to elect a new set of leaders and that there would be regular NEC meeting to discuss and approve the programmes and framework for the exercise.
