PDP explains why Sheriff is still running loose

PDP crisis deepens as court orders INEC to recognise only Sheriff's candidates

The Peoples Democratic Party said it is yet to sanction Senator Ali Modu Sheriff because the party feels he might still repent.

The Ahmed Makarfi led group of the party said if it has considered the pressure being mounted on them, they would have sanctioned Sheriff and nothing will happen.

The spokesman for the National Caretaker Committee of the party, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, said this while speaking with journalists after the inauguration of its 89-man zoning committee, which is headed by Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi state.

The zoning committee is mandated to allot national offices to the six geo-political zones in the country, which will be contested at the party’s national convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers state on August 17.

Adeyeye said, “The committee has been under pressure to wield the big stick against Sheriff and his group. But we will continue to extend the olive branch; after all it is yielding result.‎

“Sheriff cannot be bigger than the party. The decision of the convention is greater than Sheriff and others and the demand of Sheriff that the caretaker committee should resign cannot be met. Nigerians have seen what Sheriff and his group are doing as the greatest act of sabotage.”

The southern part of the country is expected to produce the party’s next national chairman while the northern part is to produce the party’s 2019 presidential candidate.
