PDP grants amnesty to Sheriff, others
After emerging victorious at the Supreme Court, the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said it had forgiven and granted Senator Ali Modu Sheriff and his supporters amnesty.
A unanimous decision of a panel of five Justices of the Supreme Court had on Wednesday reinstated Makarfi as PDP national chairman, dislodging Sheriff, who an earlier Appeal Court judgment validated as the authentic chairman of the party.
At a press briefing following the judgment of the apex court, National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, said the PDP was extending its hands of fellowship to the party’s former acting national chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, his deputy, Dr. Cairo Ojuogboh, and others who supported him.
He added that all hands must be on deck as the party prepared for the coming 2019 general elections. He also assured that the PDP will do everything to ensure unity within its ranks, most especially at the state level.

Adeyeye described the leadership tussle as a “monumental distraction” and a “painful and agonising period” for the former ruling party while it lasted.
He continued, “We are granting amnesty to all of them including Sheriff and his group. It is “a general amnesty for everyone.”
He then called on all those that filed court cases against the party to give peace a chance in the interest of party unity.
