PDP group knocks Aregbesola, Soyinka over education sector in Osun.

A group, The Integrity Group of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, have berated the state governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and Prof. Wole Soyinka over the falling standard of education in the state.

The group, however, applauded the governor for setting up a committee to look into the problem of mass failure by students.

The group, in a statement issued in Osogbo, the state capital on Saturday and signed by its chairman and secretary, Hon. Bimbo Oyedele and Bamidele Adeniyi respectively, said the Osun PDP has been vindicated that the Soyinka Education Summit was a waste of resources that took Osun back to the mass failure experienced during the Alliance for Democracy, AD-led administration in the state.

“What we are witnessing in this APC/Aregbesola regime is similar, though worse than the failures and education backwardness during Akande regime

“It is on record that during the PDP era, the state was at a time in the top 10 in academics, the state University was ranked high and also under the PDP, the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Lautech, was ranked the best state university.

“That Aregbesola saw the need to make an amend is note worthy but condemnable, because it’s another means to waste the depleted resources of the state”, the statement said.

Continuing, the group called on Prof. Wole Soyinka to apologise to the people of Osun, “who he bequeathed a retrogressive educational system that has now made the state one of the poorest in terms of academics performance”.

The group further called on the Governor Aregbesola to revert to the old way that gave the state excellent result, allow the ministry of education perform their role, pay teachers promptly, respect PTA decisions and be sincere with the free education programme .

“Better still, let Mr. Governor ask from his predecessors how they got better results with little funds compared to all the billions that can’t be accounted for.

“To put the story straight, this government is a failure as far as education is concerned”, the group said.
