PDP leaders seek Ooni's help in Omisore's EFCC travails
Osun state leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are seeking the help of Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi (Ojaja II), in Senator Iyiola Omisore travails with the EFCC.
Omisore, the former governorship candidate of PDP in the state, is being held by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations bordering on N1.31 billion he allegedly received from Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, which the agency said, is part of the arms deal money the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), is accused of having squandered.
But Osun PDP, in a move to save Omisore from the quagmire, led by its state chairman, Mr. Adesoji Adagunodo and 20 other leaders, on Wednesday paid a courtesy visit to the paramount ruler at his Ile Oodua Palace in Ile-Ife, to seek for his intervention.
A posted statement on a Facebook page by the Director of Media and Public Affairs, Ooni’s Palace, Mr. Moses Olafare, on Saturday, disclosed that Adagunodo, during the visit to the Ooni, apologised on behalf of the detained ex-governor who had not visited the king since he was crowned seven months ago.
“Your Imperial Majesty, we are here to pay our homage to you as the father of our race who must be respected by all true sons and daughters of Yoruba race.
“We also beg you in the name of Oduduwa to use your goodwill in assisting us to rescue one of our leaders, Otunba Iyiola Omisore, from the EFCC detention, even though we are not unaware of his attitude towards this sacred palace as he has refused to pay homage since you were divinely crowned seven months ago. We can assure you of his change of attitude as soon as he is released from detention,” Adagunodo reportedly begged.
Ogunwusi was quoted as saying in his response that he bore no grudges against Omisore, describing him as a prominent Ife indigene entitled to his choice of relationship.
