PDP mulls suspension of members as convention holds

Published

on

There are indications that the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party is under intense pressure to suspend some of its members believed to be working against its interest.

This, it was gathered, was one of the issues discussed by members of the National Executive Committee of the party in Abuja on Friday night.

Sources at the meeting told Punch correspondent that particular attention was paid to the South-West zone of the party, where a court case was said to have been instituted at a Federal High Court, Abuja calling for the stoppage of the convention.

The None-Elective Convention of the party, which narrowly survived being stopped by the court, was said to have been mandated to discuss the possibility of suspending the erring members.

Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee of the party, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, disclosed at the PDP’s 75th National Executive Committee that there were “about five or four different attempts by persons “whose names he did not mention to use the courts to halt the convention.
