BAYELSA GUBER: PDP downplays last minute defections from the party

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in its 473rd meeting on Thursday summoned Ndudi Elumelu to a crucial meeting, at the party’s national secretariat on Friday.

Summoned along Elumelu according to a statement by the party’s spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan, were Wole Oke, Lynda Ikpeazu, Anayo Edwin, Gideon Gwadi, Toby Okechukwu and Adekoya Abdul-Majid.

Noting that the summon was in line with the provisions of chapter 10 (57)(3) of the constitution of the PDP, the party said the summoned members should appear before the members of the National Working Committee at 10 am.

The summon followed the decision of the House of Representatives Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, to recognise as minority leaders of the House PDP, lawmakers who are not the choice of the opposition party.

The party said it wants Kingsley Chinda as Minority Leader; Chukwuka Onyema, Deputy Minority Leader; Yakubu Bard, Minority Whip; Muraina Ajibola, Deputy Minority Whip.

However, Gbajabiamila had announced Elumelu as the Minority Leader to the chagrin of the party. It was based on this the party had summoned Elumelu and others who were appointed leaders of the House against its demands.
