PDP raises concerns over safety of Wike's aides, others in Army, SARS custody

Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised concerns over the safety of its members who have remained in the custody of 6 Division Nigerian Army and the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS).

The party said the members were arrested, some with their families, for about a week now by the security operatives who detained them in their respective detention camps.

This was disclosed by the state PDP chairman, Bro Felix Obuah, in a statement through his special adviser on media and publicity, Jerry Needam.

According to him, aside those illegally being detained by the army and FSARS, many other victims of alleged harassment by the security agencies are still hospitalized, some in critical condition from gunshots and physical torture by the soldiers and police.

He listed those in detention and being tortured, to include Professor Israel Owate, Dr. Fred Ateng and Hon. Deinma Iyalla, all Special Advisers to Gov Nyesom Wike.

Others are the chairman of Emohua Local Government Council, Hon. Tom Aliezi, Rivers State Co-ordinator of Arise Nigeria, Hon. Benjamin Diri as well as ordinary defenseless men and women including pregnant mothers.

The state PDP condemned the alleged acts and described it as arbitrary and reckless display of power.

Noting that the alleged arrests, harassments and detentions were attempts to cause crisis in the state, PDP called on well meaning Nigerians, traditional rulers, religious leaders, Human Rights Groups and the National Peace Committee as well as the International Community to rise up in defense of the innocent Rivers people and residents from the “trigger happy men of the Nigerian Army and FSARS”.
