The news came just as Sen Dino Melaye also on Wednesday defected to the PDP at the Senate.

These happened just as a lawmaker representing Obudu Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Mr. Steven Ukpukpen, was reported to have slumped during his morning workout along Moore Road in Calabar.

He was later pronounced dead.

Ukpukpen was taken to a nearby Navy clinic, which said his condition was critical and needed more attention as it was advised that he should be transferred to another hospital.

After being transferred to another hospital, the lawmaker was confirmed dead by the private hospital and later on by The Anatomy Unit of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital,

The speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly Mr. John Gaul-Lebo, expressed his shock and sympathy in a meeting with the family of the deceased.
