PDP: Sacked faction refuses to give in, vows to stick with Makarfi

APDP: We won’t abandon PDP for Sheriff –Makarfi

Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to Appeal Court sacked leader of the party, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, on Monday passed a vote of confidence on him and resolved to challenge the judgement that ousted him at the Supreme Court.

After the Nigerian Police barricaded the International Conference Centre in Abuja where PDP members loyal to embattled Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee where supposed to meet on Monday, the group settled at the Asokoro residence of the Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose and had their meeting.

During its meeting, the group passed a vote of confidence on Senator Makarfi and resolved that it was going to challenge the Appeal Court judgement, which authenticated Senator Modu Sheriff as the leader of PDP, at the Supreme Court.

Earlier, Senator Makarfi in his opening speech at the meeting disclosed that the reason for the meeting was to brief members on the outcome of the recent Port Harcourt Appeal Court verdict and to decide the next appropriate move.

Deputy Senate president Ike Ekweremadu, speaking during the meeting said the level at which institution of state is now being manipulated has become very worrisome. He wondered how police are being used to thwart democracy in Nigeria.

In attendance at the meeting were four governors, the deputy president of the Senate, the minority leader of the House of Representatives, former governors and ministers, members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) as well as state chairmen of the PDP.

All present at the meeting, reaffirmed their support for the decision of the party convention in Port Harcourt brought about Makarfi Caretaker committee.
