PDP says Gov Okorocha’s wife’s position confirms he’s running ‘family govt’

Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the recent revelation by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Mr George Etche, that the wife of Governor Rochas Okorocha is in control of four ministries as a proof of the party’s position that he is nepotistic leader.

Spokesman for Senator Ali Modu Sheriff’s PDP, Barrister Enyinnaya Onuegbu, stated this in a telephone conversation with Ripples Nigeria, adding that Etche did not make full disclosure of the portfolios under the control of Nkechi, governor Okorocha’s wife.

The Secretary to the Imo State government, Etche, who represented the governor during an event hosted by Correspondent Chapel of Imo State, to honour the state’s First Lady with the “most outstanding Governor’s wife award” in Owerri recently, disclosed that the governor’s wife is in charge of four ministries.

Etche who sang praises of the achievements of Okorocha’s wife in six years, identified the ministries under her control to include Women Affairs, Works, Health, as well as the office of the Secretary to the State Government.

But Barrister Onuegbu, speaking for the state PDP, said the party was never surprised with the recent disclosure by the secretary of the state government about Nkechi Okorocha being in charge of four ministries.

While he said Etche’s comment only buttressed the point PDP in the state has been making that Okorocha is running a government of family members, he added that the wife of the governor has several other government positions she is in control of, including being the Chairman of Imo State Amnesty Committee.

“We are not surprise to hear the governor boasting that his wife controls four ministries in his government. We have always said it that the governor is running a family government. Those who are not his family members are so incompetent to understand their jobs as commissioners and that’s why the secretary to the state government is telling you that the wife is in control of four ministries.

“That is even half-truth because she controls more than that. Is she not the Chairman of the unrecognised Amnesty Committee in the state illegally constituted by Governor Okorocha? Okorocha and family are in control of everything in Imo State,” Onuegbu said.

Ripples had noted in its report that Okorocha is appointing family members in juicy government positions, constructing substandard roads, abandoning projects and how both the governor and family members have been busy acquiring landed properties and developing same in choice areas of the state among others.
