INEC says court lacks jurisdiction to hear Okorocha’s suit, asks for dismissal

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senator-elect, Alhaji Garba Dahiru, has cried out over the alleged refusal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue him a certificate of return despite a court ruling on the issue.

Dahiru, who claimed to have won the senatorial seat for Bauchi South, has therefore called on INEC to adhere to the court order which directed it to issue him and four other House of Representatives candidates from the senatorial district with certificates of return as elected federal lawmakers.

The supposed senator-elect claimed that the five of them had since got a court order by Justice Bello Kawu of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court about one month ago, to that effect.

Addressing newsmen at a press conference in Bauchi on Saturday, Dahiru said: “The Court Order was given by Justice Bello Kawu on 16th May, 2019 on suit No. FCT /HC/CV/988/2019.

“The Court ordered that INEC should issue of Return to candidates that came second in the race for Bauchi South senate seat and the four federal constituencies in the last general election. We urge INEC to obey the Court Order.”
