PDP crisis: Sheriff ready to step down, but has issues with Fayose, Wike

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Lagos state chapter, has urged the factional national chairman of the party, Ali Modu Sheriff, to disregard advices from sycophants and political failures around him and embrace peace for his good and that of the party.

The party stated this in reaction to the recent judgment of the Federal High court sitting in Port Harcourt which confirmed the legitimacy of the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led caretaker committee to oversee the party.

“We admonish him to be wary of sycophants and political failures who surround him only for their selfish and momentary gains. He should reach out to the caretaker committee and contribute his quota to the developmental programmes of the party. This way, posterity would be kind on him.

“This statesmanlike spirit should now manifest in the immediate commencement of invitation and reconciliation of protesting members, especially in the Ali Modu Sheriff’s camp. Hopefully, this will be done in earnest and (should) successfully lead our membership drive as we approach 2019.

“In this light, the state chapter has called on Sheriff to rescind any decision to appeal the said judgment for his sake and in the interest of achieving present and future victories for the party,” Lagos PDP said.

A Federal High Court sitting in Rivers state capital, Port Harcourt, had on Monday upheld an earlier ruling by an Abuja High Court sacking Sheriff as the chairman of PDP.

But Sheriff has vowed to contest the ruling at the appeal court, insisting that until a higher court gives ruling on the case, he remains PDP national chairman.
