After its recent judgment from the Supreme Court, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ogun State chapter has suspended Senator Buruji Kashamu.

Kashamu, who is the senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, was suspended alongside six other party members, namely: Mr. Bayo Dayo, Mr. Pegba Otemolu, Mr. Semiu Shodipo, Mr Fatai Adeyanju, Mr. Segun Seriki, Hon. Daisi Akitan and Hon. Bowale Solaja.

According to a statement by the party chairman and secretary, Sikirulai Ogundele and Olabode Bankole respectively, they were found guilty of being involved in anti-party activities and misappropriation of party funds.

Their suspension according to the statement is based on the recommendations from the committee set up by the party in June to investigate the allegations.

The statement read in part, “Based on the preliminary report of the panel however, submitted to the Executive committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ogun State Chapter, we found merit in the allegations and hereby adopt the report and findings of the Panel which include recommendation to suspend the above mentioned.

“In the exercise of the powers vested on the State Executive committee in accordance with the Constitution of the Peoples Democratic Party the above name are hereby suspended from the Ogun State Chapter of the PDP with immediate effect; their names have also been forwarded to the national secretariat of the party for necessary further appropriate disciplinary actions”.

The statement also noted that the panel on several occasions invited Kashamu and the other members who had been implicated in the misapplication and outright diversion of party funds to defend and acquit themselves of those allegations but they refused to honour the invitation.

Meanwhile, reacting to the news of his purported suspension, Kashamu boasted that no one can suspend.

He denied there was any such development, adding that the news is mere rumours.
