PDP TO EX CHAIRMAN: We are better off without you

The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has welcomed the defection of its former chairman, Moshood Salvador, insisting that the party is better off without him.

The former chairman defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, alleging that all his efforts to build the PDP in Lagos was frustrated by some elders and that he was abandoned by the party when he was in detention.

It would be recalled that Salvador, alongside some other members of the party were arrested and charged to court for the murder of the Apapa Local Government area chairman of PDP, Mr Adeniyi Aborishade.

He was however discharged and acquitted by an Ikeja High Court.

Salvador, who said he could not continue to labour in vain, left with about 15000 supporters to APC.

In his reaction, the Lagos State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr Taofik Gani, said in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos, that the party was better without its former chairman.

According to Gani, Salvador was being economical with the truth by claiming he left the party because of Chief Olabode George, a leader of the party, adding that George was actually his benefactor as he facilitated his becoming the state chairman and stood by him during the factional feud in the state chapter.

Gani added that the former chairman was not a team player, insisting that party is not losing sleep over Salvador’s defection.
