PDP wants Buhari to apologise for ‘embarrassing’ Nigeria

Published

on

The PDP says that the president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari has to apologise to Nigerians for what it said was an embarrassing protocol blunder, leading to a discourteous treatment by the British Prime Minister David Cameron last Saturday, when Buhari visited 10, Downing Street.

Spokesman for the party, Mr Olisa Metuh, in a statement on Sunday, said “It was disgraceful that due to poor coordination and crass ineptitude in the handling of issues, the President-elect was left almost stranded while waiting for about 30 minutes before he was received by the British leader”.

Metuh said Buhari embarrassed the nation by embarking on such a sensitive visit without adequate preparations, describing what happened as “shameful and completely unacceptable”, wondering if such was a foretaste of the muddling to be experienced under the APC’s administration.

“Nigerians, as citizens of a sovereign nation were thoroughly embarrassed when they saw their President-elect cheapened and kept waiting at the door of 10 Downing Street to see the British Prime Minister due to shoddy arrangements by his handlers.

The PDP also criticised Buhari for what it called “apparent snub of the handover programme” lined up by the Federal Government to transmit power to him on May 29.

The ruling party said it was disappointed with the behaviour of General Buhari, describing it as a ‘measure of lack of democratic discipline’.

Perhaps they thought they would just show up at number 10 as if it was their uncle’s house and they would be received like august visitors. This is Europe, no one gives a hoot about you. #realitycheck.

He went on his on and not as the president. that is honorable enough. If he had gone with all the parafinalia, you all will say he is already acting like the president. A gentleman like GMB decides not to rubish the President and you are all crying to score points. When will we learn to be civil?

“OOP!” – out of point. Metuh should go to Lai Mo’ for mentoring on ‘oposition spokesmanship.’

Who measured the time he was waiting for the door to open? Note that many UK,Ministers also wait at the door to be opened. Boris Johnson, London Mayor, arrives at that gate by bicycle GMB was not meeting his counter part as he is not yet Nigeria’s president till May 29. More so he was on private visit and not official visit. To get to that door, it means he had been cleared at the gate by security or else he coudnt have gotten there. All these noisy PDP have been so obsessed with the old order and they think GMB will do the same?Havent they seen the ex Paraguay president waiting in cue for his turn to see a doctor? When OBJ was the president-elect he was traveling in presidential planes but GMB chose to travel in BA,as even the Queen of England travels by BA. Just wait to see what will happen with the 12 presidential jets owned and used by OBJ and GEJ when GMB takes over.If three are retained, the rest might be sold to revised Nigerian Airways and revised the company and provide jobs to Nigerians.
