PDP warns APC not to play politics with coronavirus pandemic

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned the All Progressives Congress (APC) not to play politics with the Covid-19.

It said the ruling party should join other well-meaning Nigerians in seeking solution for the scourge.

The party claimed in a statement by its spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan, that the APC government had failed to adduce any meaningful suggestion on ways to address the raging pandemic, but had rather enmeshed in internal squabbles while the country is at risk.

“Nigerians will recall that the PDP had on several occasions advised the Federal Government on effective pre-emptive measures as well as the need for concerted efforts and safeguards in the fight against Covid-19.

“The PDP had been on the forefront in canvassing for stringent steps at our international ports and borderlines, consequent upon which President Muhammadu Buhari approved a belated international travel ban from 13 countries.

“It is also instructive to note that only yesterday, the presidential candidate of the PDP in the 2019 general election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, advised the APC-led President Buhari’s administration to reduce the pump price of fuel and suspend stamp duties on all accounts as palliative measures against Covid-19, which Mr. President also implemented today Wednesday),” the opposition party said.

Further noting that it had repeatedly urged President Buhari to lead from the front, like other world leaders, in the fight against Covid-19 by addressing Nigerians; which he was yet to perform, PDP added:

“While our party and patriotic Nigerians are busy seeking for solutions, the APC and the Buhari Presidency remain distant and failed to demonstrate capacity in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our nation.

“The APC is only sulking over the success being recorded by our party in the South West, for which it has resorted to making vague allegations and playing politics with a global pandemic at a time when responsible Nigerians are searching for solution.”

There are currently eight cases of coronavirus in Nigeria with seven of them recorded in Lagos and one in Ekiti.
