Strike

The strike action called by the leaders of PENGASSAN and NUPENG has been suspended after a round of marathon meeting with federal government representatives.

Emerging reports say the meeting which ran into the early hours of Wednesday had the Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu, and his labour and productivity counterpart, Chris Ngige in attendance.

Though details of the agreements are still being expected, it would be recalled that the two major unions in the oil and gas sector of the country had embarked on the strike over what they said was insensitivity on the part of government to the oil sector.

They also complained that government was not being serious about the Petroleum Industry Bill before the National Assembly which they say will bring about development in the sector.
