PETITION AGAINST NNPC BOSS BARU: Leaked by Kachikwu to embarrass Buhari, Yakasai alleges

The Minister of State for Petroleum and Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, has been accused of masterminding the leakage of the memo he wrote to President Muhammadu Buhari accusing the Group Managing Director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Maikanti Baru, of insubordination.

The accusation was made by Tanko Yakasai on Wednesday who claimed that Kachikwu leaked the memo for the sole purpose of embarrassing President Buhari and portray him as being unserious on issues of due process.

The elder statesman stated this in a statement he personally signed and released on the contentious issue currently rocking the NNPC.

He said, “My feelings was that the leakage of the letter was simply made to embarrassed the President and create an impression that he is not serious about following due process. It is unimaginable to assume that the leak of that letter can happen without the knowledge or even the consent of the minister or anybody who is the author of such document.

“I know for sure that critical communication at the higher level are normally not done through a third party to avoid leakage of information. From the content of the Minister Kachikwu’s letter, it contained series of grievances which appeared to have over a long period of time.

“It is a common knowledge that the President has been away for over three months recently, common sense dictates that such accumulated differences should have been conveyed to the Acting President during the absence of the President.”

Kachikwu had in a recent leaked memo he wrote to President Buhari accused Baru of insubordination and alleged that he awarded a contract of about $25 billion (N9 trillion) without following due process.
