Pirates offer words of wisdom to Buhari over amnesty for militants

Pirates Confraternity, also known as National Association of Seadogs (NAS) has cautioned President Muhammadu Buhari to stop offering amnesty to the Niger Delta Avengers.

The group insists that amnesty encourages the militants to wax stronger and feel what they are doing is right.

Speaking during an interview on Sunday, the National President of the Pyrates confraternity, Mr. Arthur Boje, advised President Buhari to focus more on addressing the infrastructural needs of the region as well as cleaning up of Ogoniland.

He stated that when all their basic needs are met, the militants won’t have any rationale to vandalise and destroy pipelines and other social vices they are presently engaged in.

He also urged president Buhari to step-up his relentless fight against corruption that has painted the country in a bad image in the international community.

Boje made it known that the myriad of the agitators or militants in the Niger Delta region were mainly doing that for their selfish purposes, and not for the benefits of the communities.

In his words, “The Niger Delta Avengers believe that they have some form of control over oil pipelines that passes through their communities- that is why they are fighting. This they do because they know the government will surely invite them for dialogue as well as granting them amnesty with huge compensations, thereby fulfilling their aims of enriching their pockets”.

According to him, “If the government continues granting amnesty, some other groups will always emerge to benefit from the dividends of amnesty and thereby the issue if militancy will never end.
But the government could be reactive to addressing the issue of militancy by dealing with the infrastructural facilities that have bereaved the region”, he asserted.
