Lalong wins Plateau governorship election

Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong has been elected as the chairman of Northern Governors’ Forum.

His emergence came following the meeting of the group in Kaduna State on Friday.

Lalong, who will now succeed outgoing governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, is expected to hold the position for the next four years.

Earlier at the meeting in Kaduna, attended by governors of 19 northern states, the outgoing chairman, Shettima, applauded President Muhammadu Buhari over his efforts to address issues of insecurity in the region.

While the region had continued to suffer attacks from terrorist Boko Haram group in the North East, recent issues of killings by herdsmen in the North Central and banditry in the North West, as well as growing issues of kidnappings in the region, have heightened insecurity in that part of Nigeria.
