Police arraigns brothers for unlawful possession of firearms in Kaduna

Police on Thursday arraigned two brothers at the Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for alleged unlawful possession of firearms and criminal conspiracy.
However, the pleas of the defendants – Saminu Garba (23) and Sani Garba (26) – were not taken.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, ordered the defendants to be remanded in a correctional facility pending the advice of the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
He adjourned the case till February 6 for hearing.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo told the court that the defendants were arrested along Jaji Road Kaduna by FIB- IRT Kaduna State operatives on January 2.
According to Leo, the defendants were arrested with one locally fabricated automatic pistol, one Dane gun, eight cutlasses, knives, and daggers.
The prosecutor said the defendants could not explain the items found with them when they were arrested.
The offence, he said, contravened the Robbery and Firearms (special provision) Act RII LFN, 2004.
