Police arraigns man for allegedly beating pregnant wife to death in Ondo

Police on Wednesday arraigned a middle-aged man, Oluwaseun Olabode at the Akure Magistrate Court in Ondo State for allegedly beating his pregnant wife to death.

The defendant allegedly committed the crime on April 3 at Oke-Agba area of Akure, Akure South local government area of the state.

Police alleged that Olabode hit the deceased on the abdomen during a minor disagreement, leading to the death of the unborn child and the mother.

The police prosecutor, Insp. Uloh Goodluck, told the court that the offence was punishable under Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code Cap 36 Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State.

Goodluck said Olabode committed murder and urged the court to remand him to police custody pending legal advice from the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The defence counsel, A. Ololike, did not oppose the application for a remand order.

The presiding magistrate, N. T Aladejana, ordered that the defendant be remanded in police custody pending legal advice from the DPP.

He adjourned the case till September 8.
