Police arrest 29 NURTW workers for alleged hooliganism, forceful takeover of leadership

The Oyo state police command has arrested 29 workers of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) for alleged hooliganism and attempted takeover of leadership of the union by force.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Shina Olukolu, who made this known on Monday in Ibadan while addressing newsmen on the activities of the command said some thugs attacked the office of Abideen Ejiogbe, the State Chairman of the NURTW at Orita-Challenge motor park in Ibadan.

The hoodlums who allegedly came in several vehicles shot into the air and wounded some members of the union with cutlasses.

Olukolu noted that the suspects were later arrested while dangerous weapons such as guns with live cartridges, cutlasses, sharp knives, charms and weeds suspected to be Indian hemp, were recovered from them.
