Police arrest gang who raped, killed elder couple, dumped their corpse in well

A leader of a robbery gang paraded by operatives of the Kwara State Police Command has confessed that his gang members robbed and killed a couple at the Fate Area of Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.

Timothy Ajayi, the gang leader said that after robbing the couple, Mr. Micheal Akhigbe (65) and Juana (60), he raped the woman before his gang members killed the couple in cold blood.

Adeyemi Aderinkomi, a member of the gang who was also paraded with other suspects for allegedly being members of a fraudulent recruitment syndicate also confirmed that Ajaiyi raped the woman.

“I became a robber because of financial problem. I regret it. I have only tried to dupe one person, but I was not successful. I am a teacher. I admit that I raped the woman.” Ajayi said.

The robbers who attacked the couple because they had important documents in their possession according to reports, dumped the bodies of the couple in the compound well after their operation.

Confirming and commenting on the matter, Mr. Olusola Amore, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police said the incident was brought to the notice of the police after a family member of the deceased, Mr. Bernard John, on December 21, 2016, reported that the couple were missing at the ‘F’ division, Tanke, Ilorin.

According to Amore, the report led to an investigation which “led to the arrest of Aderinkomi and Ajayi, who were the masterminds of the crime.

“They confessed to the crime. Ajayi also confessed to raping the woman before they killed her and her husband, carting away their property, which included one Toyota Camry, two mobile phones, among others.
“The suspects sold some of the stolen items to Akingbade Ademila and Toyose Alade, who had been arrested.

“To cover their track, they set the Toyota Camry ablaze. They confessed to have dumped the victims in the well to prevent detection. The exhibits were recovered from the receivers, while efforts are on to arrest other suspects on the run. They will soon be charged to court”, he revealed.
