Police arrests Catholic priest over boy’s death in Imo

Police operatives in Imo State have arrested a priest with the St. Columbus Catholic Church in the Amaimo Ikeduru local government area of the state identified as Joseph Enyinaya in connection with the death of a boy in the church.

The spokesman for the state police command, Henry Okoye, told journalists in Owerri that the priest was arrested on Thursday for questioning on the incident.

There were reports that the priest shot the boy for setting off fireworks inside the church on New Year’s Eve.

The spokesman said remains of the victim had been deposited at a morgue in a nearby community.

He said: “The priest has been arrested, and the body of the boy has been deposited at a mortuary in the Atta Ikeduru community.

“The police had launched a detailed investigation to ascertain the facts surrounding the incident.”
