Butcher beats wife to death for ‘disrespecting him’

The long arm of the law has caught up with a 32-year-old man identified as Jibrin Abu who allegedly beat his wife to death over alleged infidelity.

The suspect who was apprehended by police operatives attached to the Lapai Division in the Lapai Local Government Area of the Niger State, reportedly beat his wife to death with a log of wood after severally warning her not to pick calls from her male friends.

However, Abu’s wife, Victoria Aliyu, did not heed his warnings as she got her husband angry when he caught her again receiving a call from a male friend which forced him to beat her dead with a wood.

In his confessional statement, Abu said he suspected that his wife had been sleeping with other men in the village where they live.

He said; “I used a wood to kill her after several warnings for her to desist from taking calls from men in my house.

“I have been suspecting that my wife was sleeping around with other men in my village but in the heat of argument, I killed her.”

Abu also described his late wife as “a disgrace to womanhood,” noting that she had dragged his name in the mud.

“My late wife brought men into our matrimonial home and my culture abhors such an act; that was why I killed her to save the family from the shame,” he added.

The unfortunate incident was confirmed by Muhammad Abubakar, the Niger State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, who informed that the suspect has confessed to the crime and will be charged to court as soon as investigation into the matter is concluded.
