Police arrests six suspected kidnappers in Borno

Police operatives in Borno have arrested six suspected kidnappers in the state.

The spokesman for the state police command, Nahum Daso, said in a statement on Saturday in Maiduguri the suspects were among criminals terrorising Magumeri and Konduga local government areas of the state.

He added that the sum of ₦2.6 million, one pump action gun and one live cartridge were recovered from the suspects.

The spokesman revealed that the suspects have confessed to the crime and would be arraigned in court.

The statement read: “On 25th October 2024, following a credible tip-off, the Command Crack Squad coordinated a covert operation in Chingowa Village, Konduga LGA, and arrested the following suspects: Modu Bindimi, male, 26 years; Koso Modu Gana, male, 24 years; Kassim Bulama, male, 27 years; Isah Muhammed, male, 21 years; Zarami Fantami, male, 22 years; and Modu Bunu, male, 24 years.

‘They were found in possession of one pump-action gun, one live cartridge, and ₦2,637,000 in cash.

“Investigation revealed that the syndicate is responsible for armed robbery and kidnapping in Magumeri and Konduga LGAs, as well as extorting money from villages, purportedly as a tax to spare them from criminal operations.

“The suspects have confessed to the crime and will be charged in court following discreet investigation.”
