Some of the victims were later released following the intervention of security agents.

The spokesman for the state police command, Moses Yamu, paraded the 26-year-old and 11 other criminals in Benin City on Friday.

The spokesman said the suspect was arrested alongside two others by a police patrol team on September 1.

He said one Techno Spark 9 handset was found in the suspect’s possession.

“The call was put on hands-free, during which the caller stated that the owner of the phone by name Gazali Hassan went missing on August 31 with his motorcycle.

“On the strength of the revelation, the investigation was launched, and findings were that the suspects killed the said Gazali Hassan and took his motorcycle.

The operatives subsequently mobilised to the scene of the crime along the Idumoza pipeline in Uromi in Esan North-East local government area and recovered the corpse.

“Further investigation led to the arrest of additional seven suspects who have been terrorising Edo Central senatorial district,” Yamu stated.
