Police comments on dreadlocks & tattoos reeks of prejudice, stereotyping, Daddy Freeze says

Controversial radio personality Daddy Freeze has reacted to comments made by Lagos Police Spokesperson, Bala Elkana who said tattoos and dreadlocks are alien to the Nigerian culture.

According to the Cool FM radio host, the statement by Elkana reeks of prejudice and stereotyping as his Nigerian grand mother had tattoos and he also explained that there are kids born with natural dread called ‘Dada’.

Daddy Freeze wrote on Instagram; “In my humble opinion, this statement reeks prejudice and stereotyping. By the way, my Yoruba grand mother had tattoos, there were local tattoos that women wore back then, my grandma had them. Kids born with dread are called ‘dada’ so I’m not getting this. ~FRZ

Elkana made the controversial statement in an interview with BBC pidgin, while condemning the recent killing of a football fan, Kolade Johnson in the state by a police officer.

He said police officers usually harass any youth wearing dreadlocks or having a tattoo on them because most of the cultists that have been arrested wear dreadlocks or have tattoos on them adding that there is a connection between wearing dreadlocks and cultism.

‘Tattoo and dreadlock are strange to our culture especially for Nigeria. Most times when you arrest cultists, many of them have signs on them,” Elkana said during the interview.
