Police confirm 3 dead in Rivers pipeline explosion

The Rivers State Police Command on Saturday confirmed that three people lost their lives in the pipeline explosion that occurred in the state.

The state police Public Relations Officer, DSP Nnamdi Omoni confirmed the sad incident to newsmen.

It was further gathered that the development made several residents of Konkon area of Oyigbo local area to flee their homes.

It was also learnt that the fire which emanated from the pipeline explosion started around 8am.

The lawmaker representing Oyigbo State Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Promise Nwankwo confirmed that the raging fire had made thousands of residents flee their homes while running for their lives.

He called on Federal and State fire services to come quickly to the area to put out the fire and stop its spread to other areas, adding that Konkon and many communities in Oyigbo have petroleum pipeline crisscrossing them.

The area is notorious for pipeline destruction by oil thieves.

It was also gathered that the exploded pipeline supplies petroleum products to Aba and Enugu.
