Police confirm release of kidnapped Enugu monarch, wife

The police in Enugu state on Wednesday confirmed the release of the traditional ruler of Obom-Agbogugu of Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, Igwe Sunday Orji and wife, Alice from kidnappers’ den.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Enugu Police Command, SP Ebere Amaraizu made this known to newsmen on Wednesday.

According to him,“The duo have been released, they have been freed from the kidnappers, details will come later”, the police image maker said.

The monarch was kidnapped with his wife, Alice last Sunday.

Shortly after he was kidnapped, the family members were contacted by the abductors, who demanded for the sum of N50m ransom.

However, it was gathered that an undisclosed ransom was paid before the release of the monarch and his wife could be secured.

A source said the sum of N20m was paid to the kidnappers after they were pleaded with to reduce their initial demand.
