Police declare state of emergency in Kaduna over kidnappings

In an effort to curb the growing cases of kidnappings in Kaduna State, the state Police Command on Tuesday declared a State of Emergency across the state.

The declaration was made known by the spokesman of the command, DSP Zubairu Abubakar in Kaduna on Tuesday.

According to Abubakar, a special team of anti kidnap squad has also been formed to track and dislodge the criminal gangs.

He further disclosed that the declaration of the state of emergency was based on the orders of the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase.

It would be recalled that the state had become the latest haven for kidnappers, with several people in towns and villages falling victims.

Also a number of high profile kidnap cases have further heightened concerns over the growing trend.

A serving Colonel in the Nigerian Army was kidnapped in the state and was later found dead on the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway. The Vice President of United Church of Christ in Nigeria, Rev. Iliya Anthony, who was kidnapped alongside the President of the church, Rev. Emmanuel Dzarma, was also killed by his abductors.

Rev. Dziggau, Rev. Yakubu Dzarma, another kidnapped victim, later regained their freedom.

A former Executive Director, NNPC, and now a Director in Dangote Group, Mansur Ahmed, was also lucky to have released
by his abductors.
