Police deny officers who raided Clark’s home as he threatens to sue

The Nigerian Police has denied knowledge, or ordering the invasion and search of of the Abuja home of the Niger Delta elder statesman, Edwin Clark.

The police stated in a release on Tuesday that the Inspector General of police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris did not order the raid, as claimed by the officers who carried out the action, and that he had ordered for their arrest, and those of the informants involved.

A team of police officers had earlier in the day invaded the Haile Selasie, Abuja residence of Clark, a Federal Commissioner for Information, allegedly in search of arms they said were allegedly being stockpiled to fight against the government.

However, Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, Ag. DCP Jimoh Moshood stated that “the Inspector General of Police is not aware and did not order the raid of the residence of the Elder Statesman”.

According to him, the IGP has “directed the detention and investigation of the Four (4) Police personnel and the informant involved. The outcome of the investigation will definitely be made public.

“Notwithstanding, the facts that on daily basis the Nigeria Police Force across the country receives information from members of the public which were promptly used to prevent and detect crimes and Criminalities, the Force will not condone misconduct by any of its personnel that can run contrary to the rule of law”.

Meanwhile the South South leader, while reacting to the incident stated that he would react appropriately, and that he is awaiting the advice of his lawyers, as he contemplates legal action against the police.

This is not the first time in recent times, that the police authorities are denying actions purportedly carried out by its officials.

Recall that some policemen had recently blocked the homes of Senate President Bukola Saraki and his deputy Ike Ekweremadu, but the police authorities had later said the officials involved in that action were unknown to them.
