Desperate attempts by armed robbers to break into Benin, Edo State, branch of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) was foiled by policemen attached to the bank on Tuesday.
The armed robbers got to the bank and tried to break into the premises at the time a bullion van carrying cash to an unknown commercial bank was leaving the bank premises.
However, the policemen resisted them and a gun duel ensued between them and the marauders.
Ripples Nigeria gathered that the incident caused chaos around the busy Akpakpava Road as people and motorists scampered for safety.
Though no casualty was recorded in the exchange of gun fire between the robbers and policemen, the incident paralysed commercial activities in the area as shop owners speedily closed up for the day.
The state police command is yet to comment on the incident.
