Unknown to many, the Nigerian police has saved the lives of countless number of people in Lagos State, and forestalled the disruption of economic activities in the state.

Incoming reports suggests that the police may have thwarted an attempt by a Militant group, operating from the creeks of Ikorodu and Arepo areas of Lagos and Ogun States, to blow up the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.

According to sources, the police were able to intercept dynamites and detonators which the militants were supposed to use to carry out the foiled attack.

The Third Mainland Bridge constructed by the military administration of Gen. Ibrahim Babangida is one of the longest bridge on the African continent, and a major transit corridor connecting the Island and mainland areas of Lagos, the commercial capital of Nigeria.

Reports say policemen who were acting on a tip-off were able to thwart the move by the militant group and the gang leader who is an expert in explosives, identified as Abiodun Amos was arrested by operatives of the Inspector General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team, IRT,  led by Abba Kyari, who trailed him to a river bank at the Majidu area of Ikorodu, Lagos.

Ak47 rifles, hidden in a ‘Ghana-Must-Go’ bag, and explosives were found in the possession of the suspect at the time of his arrest.

Reports say the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris ordered his men to fish out the militants after the National Security Adviser (NSA) passed a message to his office indicating that the group was at its final stage of carrying out an attack on the Third Mainland Bridge.

The arrested suspect it was gathered had stated that his group opted to blow up the bridge to get government’s attention, to offer them amnesty.

He said they had been engaged in pippline vandalism, but their criminal means of livelihood had been blocked due to the heavy presense of soldiers and policemen in the creeks.

I find it funny when they say, there are militants in Ikorodu. These people are not militants, they are criminals. There’s no militant in Lagos

Lagos does not entertain rubbish. Ambode himself is working , owoseni , the commissioner of police in Lagos is not sleeping while the RRS police are always on guard. So Lagos is a safe place. No militants or insurgents can wreck havoc in Lagos. Thanks to the police for foiling that heinous attempt to bomb down a whole third mainland bridge.

Arrant rubbish. So all the kidnaps in Lagos to the extent that SARS policemen were kidnapped in that same Lagos , what was Ambode and Owoseni looking then.
They were just fortunate to stop the plans of the culprits and mind you they were not militants nor terrorists.

But if they had succeeded in bringing down third mainland bridge , Lagos would have been in a total commotion . third mainland bridge is the 3rd largest bridge in west Africa and serves as route of the commercial city of Lagos. It was God who intervened because He knew the consequence of it.

That’s just the pure truth. It was God who intervened.
Third mainland bridge can’t fall like the London bridge falling down in our nursery rhymes in school those days. Lol

I urge the governor and the commissioner of police to please station more policemen especially the SARS and RRS on our major roads especially in ikorodu, epe and ajah. We need to be alert at all time to avert evil plans or attack in Lagos. Lagos is too special a state for terrorists or militants to have their ways there.
