Police gun down 2 suspects who stormed Dangote’s factory to steal cables

Two members of a seven-man robbery gang were gunned down by cops after they were caught up in a gun battle when they stormed Dangote Cement company in Ibeshe area of Ogun State with the aim of stealing armoured cables.

According to reports, the company’s private guards alerted policemen when they sighted the robbers who were armed with dangerous weapons including guns scaling the fence of the premises.

A police source said two of the robbers who positioned themselves strategically to ward off intruders were killed in a gun battle that lasted for 45 minutes when they sighted policemen.

According to Abimbola Oyeyemi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police and spokesman for the Ogun State Police command, who confirmed the incident, the policemen drafted to the scene of the incident responded fire-for-fire.

The police spokesman said “ At the end of the encounter, one of the robbers was shot dead while another was arrested with severe gunshot wounds but died on the way to the hospital. Other members of the gang escaped with various degrees of gun shot injuries.”

Oyeyemi also added that one locally made single barrel gun, 14 expended cartridges, daggers and a house breaking equipment were recovered after the gun battle with the robbers.
