Police in Kaduna hunts for kidnap kingpin, Umar Haruna, as five accomplices confess

A recent operation by the Kaduna State Police Anti-Kidnapping Unit has led to the arrest of five suspected kidnappers in Kundun village.

According to ASP Mansir Hassan in a press statement on Tuesday, State Command Public Relations Officer, the suspects confessed to involvement in multiple kidnappings across the state.

“The primary target of the operation was Umar Haruna, the suspected gang leader, who remains at large,” Hassan stated. “Investigations revealed that Shuaibu Umar had been invited to participate in a future operation.”

“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to their roles in a series of kidnappings. They even disclosed their intentions to kidnap a resident of Maraban Yakawada.

Further investigations also revealed that ransom money from previous kidnapping had been used to buy bags of maize, which were recovered as exhibits,” he added.

The police recovered ransom money used to purchase bags of maize, eight cows, seven calves, and eight sheep connected to the gang’s activities.

In a separate incident, 25-year-old Isa Sa’adu was arrested for kidnapping a 3-year-old girl from Agaji village. Sa’adu confessed and items recovered from the ransom proceeds included a mobile phone, 400,000 naira, a motorcycle, a bicycle, and a bag of rice.

Malam Mohammed Sani Usman, 35, a marabout, was also arrested for providing spiritual support to Sa’adu.

Commissioner of Police CP Ibrahim Abdullahi praised the officers for their efforts, reaffirming the command’s commitment to dismantling kidnapping and criminal networks.
