Police kill suspected kidnappers, rescue victims in Rivers

Three suspected kidnappers terrorising Rivers State have been killed by operatives of the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit in Rivers State, led by ACP. Bennett Igweh.

The team, according to a statement by the Police Publicity Relations Officer of the Rivers State Command, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, also rescued two kidnap victims in two separate operation at a forest in Ogbodo community, Isiokpo clan, Ikwerre local government area and a forest in Ibaa community, Emohua LGA.

According to Omoni, the IGP team had invaded the kidnappers den in the two LGAs to record the feats, adding that many of the suspected kidnappers escaped with bullet wounds while the kidnap victims were rescued unhurt.

Omoni said: “Men of the IGP monitoring Unit, led by the Commander, DCP Benneth Igweh, today 20/03/2019, at about 1400hrs, acting on credible information and deploying technical intelligence, stormed a thick forest at Ogbodo Isiokpo, in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, where one Dr. I.I. Samuel, who was kidnapped on Monday, 18/3/19, at about 0300hrs, in his residence, was kept by the kidnappers.

“On sighting the police at the forest, the kidnappers opened fire and in the ensuing gun battle, two of the kidnappers were fatally wounded, while several others escaped with gun shot wounds.

“Consequently, the victim was rescued un-hurt and the sum of Five Hundred thousand Naira (N500,000.00 ransom money) recovered from their camp.”
