Police parades 30 suspects, including killers of Enugu priest

Enugu State Police command, has arrested suspected murderers of the parish priest of St James Catholic Church, Ugboka, Rev. Fr. Paul Offu.

Enugu Commissioner of Police (CP), Suleiman Balarabe, announced this on Friday during a press briefing at the command’s headquarters in the state.

The police paraded Ibrahim Adamu, 25 years, from Taraba State and Idris, 28 years as the suspected killers.

The CP said that three others, who allegedly took part in the murder of the priest, were still at large.

Offu was killed early this month at Awgu Area of the state. The Ohanaeze Ndigbo had since tasked the Nigerian Police on the arrest and prosecution of his killers.

The suspects were paraded along 28 other suspects including those accused of kidnapping the traditional ruler of Obum-Agbogwuwu, His Royal Highness, Igwe Sunday Orji and his wife, along Agbogwugwu-Ihe junction on August 4, 2019.

Adamu, who spoke to newsmen said that the major reason he came to Enugu State was to learn how to rear cow but that he later joined bad gang.

Also among suspects paraded by the police were the gang that confessed being responsible for the murder of another Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Clement Rapuluchukwu.

Rapuluchukwu, the parish priest of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Obunofia Ndiuno in Ezeagu Local Government Area (LGA) of the state was murdered on March 14, 2019.

The suspects Sunday Chibuko, 32 years, from Ezeagu LGA, Benjamin Osondu, 28 years, from Udenu LGA and Wasiu Ajomale from Ogun State were arrested at Abuja, Lagos and Ogun respectively.

One of the suspects, Kelechi, from Oji-River is still at large.
